Kings XI Punjab Releases Yuvraj Singh, Aaron Finch, and Axar Patel
The Kings XI Punjab have unloaded a bombshell as they advertised their list of retained and discharged players ahead of the Indian Premier League auction. Yuvraj Singh, India’s 2011 World Cup hero who was once upon a time the best batsman for Kings XI Punjab is released from the team before the 2019 Indian Premier League. Along with him, left-arm spinner Axar Patel and Australia’s current over skipper Aron Finch were also discharged from Kings XI Punjab.
36-year old Yuvraj Singh was a grey shadow in the last season scoring only 65 runs with an average of 10.83 runs in eight total matches he played for Kings XI Punjab. His teammate, Finch also had a hard time with only 134 runs in over 10 matches scoring an average of 16.45 runs per game. Finch was also not able to gather runs for the team. On the other hand, Axar Patel was the only retained player from the Mohali team that went through a complete change prior to the auctions for 2018 IPL. In fact, the tall all-rounder player was always a part of Kings XI Punjab’s family but could not keep his place after getting only three wickets in a total of nine games.
Apparently, Kings XI Punjab seems to be on a release spree. Apart from knocking out the three most important players of all seasons, the selectors of the team have also decided to leave out Ben Dwarshuis, Indian pacer Mohit Sharma, Barinder Sran, Manoj Tiwary, Kashmir’s Manzoor dar etc. Kings XI Punjab held the seventh position in the last season of Indian Premier League that involved eight teams.
The Kings bought Marcos Stoinis for Mandeep Singh who hails from Royal Challengers Bangalore. Nine more players who made it to the retainers list are skipper Ravichandran Ashwin, K L Rahul the new Indian opener along with Ankit Rajput and Mayank Agarwal. These were the Indian players who were held back by the Kings. From the overseas list, we have West Indies’s fiery batsman Chris Gayle, Australia’s pace bowler Andrew Tye, David Miller from South Africa and the wily off-spinner from Afghanistan Mujeeb ur Rehman who will be wearing the Punjab jersey this 2019 season.
Kings XI Punjab is one of those IPL teams who has never won an IPL Title. At the beginning of this month, another news of Sehwag leaving the Kings franchise. He was Kings XI Punjab mentor prior to season 2016.
Yuvraj just managed 65 runs in the eight games he played for the Kings last year.
The regularly consistent Finch did not get several runs for the team. With only 134 runs in a total of ten games, he failed last season.
Patel missed his place after taking three wickets and scoring mere 80 runs for the team.
The team has acknowledged the players who were released before 2019 IPL auction, for their hard work and contribution for Kings XI Punjab and wishes them good luck for the future ahead. After the retention, now Kings XI Punjab has eight more vacant places to fill up in the team’s squad before the start of the cash-rich league in 2019.
